In 1999, O,R&L started its own Housekeeping and Environmental Services division. This is a unique arrangement for a Facility Management Company, but was created due to our disappointment with the services of contract cleaning companies.
O,R&L has implemented Cleaning for Health programs for all of our clients, and is dedicated to improving a building’s environment through implementation of best practices, green cleaning products, janitorial training programs, and a Quality Assurance Program that is dedicated to continuous improvement. This philosophy and methodology covers all aspects of maintenance, janitorial and grounds services. A recent study by The Ashkin Group, a consulting firm specializing in greening the cleaning process, confirmed the following results with a more thorough cleaning process:
O,R&L understands that the most important aspect of cleaning in a healthcare environment is to utilize systems, products and training that eliminate cross contamination possibilities as well as improving employee/patient safety and increasing productivity. In addition to comprehensive safety, method, product and equipment training, O,R&L utilizes the most effective chemicals, with the most efficient kill rate on the market for disinfection and prevention of cross contamination. We utilize micro fiber cleaning cloths and mops which are color coded in order to adhere to global color coding standards high risk areas, specialty cleaning such as labs areas, kitchen and food service and general cleaning areas. Split bucket systems and microfiber “v” mops are also utilized. O,R&L endorses and promotes the use of equipment for hands free cleaning such as KaiVac and Transport Cleaning Systems and stainless steel or epoxy housekeeping carts with nylon bags which inhibit bacterial growth.
O,R&L provides comprehensive job training for all of our janitors, technicians, administrative and executive staff. Our employees are also encouraged to participate in industry-related classes that will enhance their skill set and performance and in return provide better customer service for our clients. We offer industry-related tuition reimbursement to full-time employees. O,R&L’s training procedures for Janitorial and Environmental Services are based upon the stringent program defined by the Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) and we have been very successful with the implementation of our program which provides Classroom Training, Field Training, and One-on-One Training.
This training and experience ensures that the quality and care of the environment are being properly attended to. Through the application of the methods employed by the Environmental Services professional, one can be assured the physical structures themselves will have their expected life cycles maintained. Proper cleaning and care will extend anticipated life cycles of assets, improving the return on the investment in capital improvements. The role of environmental services is crucial to facilities management and is the foundation for the complete and successful maintenance management programs implemented by the O,R&L facility management division.

O,R&L understands that housekeeping for healthcare environments require disinfection chemicals such as Virex® which is a patented quaternary formula that kills Tb, HBV, HIV-1 and C-diff. O,R&L maintains a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) program for any cleaning product used on site, and provides training on proper usage within our training program.
