O,R&L Facility Services’ Doris Wasson, the company’s Property Manager for the Orlando City Hall and Project Manager for the “Tower of Light” restoration was honored along with other members of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) - Orlando at the Downtown Orlando Partnership’s 25th Annual Golden Brick Awards on April 3, 2014. This year’s awards were given out for projects that have had a positive impact on downtown Orlando in 2013.

CREW Orlando's "The Tower of Light" project won two awards, a Gold Brick in the Public Projects category and a Silver Brick in the Public Art category.

O,R&L was a key contributor for the project which relied upon donated funds for the completion of the restoration.

The “Tower of Light,” by artist Ed Carpenter, was commissioned and installed in 1992 under the leadership of Mayor Bill Frederick. The original halogen lighting failed in 1994. Many attempts at finding a relighting project were discussed in the interim but none cam e to fruition. In fact, due to the lack of funding, especially during the economic downturn, there was little to no maintenance at all performed to the sculpture or base. Knowing that the City’s See Art Orlando project was slated for debut in late 2013, the Orlando chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) pledged to raise a minimum of $50,000 to clean and light the sculpture and rework the basin.

"CREW Orlando and the vendor partners are thrilled with the end result and are grateful to have been trusted with the task of restoring The City Beautiful’s ‘Tower of Light,’” said Doris Wasson.

“O,R&L Facility Services was so pleased to be a part of this exciting public sculpture community project,” said Bob Owens, President /CEO of O,R&L Facility Services.

“Our firm served as the ‘Tower of Light’ project manager, and I can say the response from corporate and individual sponsors has been overwhelming. My staff raised more than $20,000 in cash and in-kind donations, and we found that the community really believes Orlando is a world class City and deserves world class art.”
